Yolo. You Only Live Once. It is a term that I am sure we are all familiar with. I don’t know when this slang starts to become very popular to be an instagram caption, marketing propaganda or even a belief to live by. The message is simple. It teaches us to live our current life to the fullest, to enjoy our life as if we have no tomorrow. Now the question is, what is the limitation of being YOLO? To what extent we hold on to this YOLO belief?
I did a secondary research lately about Gen Y consumption and savings habit. Turns out that Millennials (Me and most of you I guess) are the least long-term oriented age group compared with the other generations. Most of the millennials don’t even have a short term goal. They live at the moment, like literally at the moment, present, now. They don’t even know what they want to do with their life. Thus, Gen Y is the worst when it comes to financial literacy and savings.
Well, we need to work on that I guess. Starting with creating a short – term goal and asking ourselves what do we really want to achieve. Start savings some of our salary if we want to go on vacation some days. Despite the downside of YOLO, we should be grateful for having found this cool and catchy term. YOLO is a reminder for us. We live only once. Thus, we need to make it right. We only have one life, make sure we live the best out of it.
Question to self:
1. What life that you want to live for the rest of your one and only life in this world?
2. What do you want people to remember about you?
